Vitra Elephant, 1945, Stool RE - New Material

In 1945, Charles and Ray Eames designed the legendary Plywood Elephant. Only two prototypes were made from this production-ready plan, which were immediately shown in an exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art in New York after production. Today only one model is known to still be in existence, and is in the possession of the Eames family.
Note: special additives retard the fading of colors due to UV radiation. However, if the chair is exposed to sunlight for prolonged periods, the color may change over time. We recommend limited exposure to sunlight.

Post-consumer plastic refers to plastic material, often single-use waste disposed of by consumer households and then transformed into a new product. Post-consumer plastics used by Vitra were originally manufactured into packaging for products purchased by consumers and later collected via Germany’s ‘Yellow Bag’ system before being reprocessed into new raw material.
